Lord Jesus Poems

Minnesota addiction
treatment center
a long ago winter
mystical & mythic
in surviving memory,
on a chapel’s brick wall
a crucifix hanging still.
Detoxed & sickly-scared,
I saw the tortured figure,
after years of spiritual
sloth & anxious amnesia,
wondering hard & fast,
what if it is true after all,
what if this Jesus thing
is greater than my doubt,
greater than all doubting?
Can Jesus end addiction?
Empty the panic of death?
What if He is true beyond
all these circles of Hell?
