“Love Desires a Knee, an Elbow,” read by Jeff Burt.
Love Desires a Knee, an Elbow
Why does the hard world writhe
unable to twist its torso
rigid in anger and hostility?
Why must greed become a rod
slipped near the spine
to prevent bending, suppleness?
Love desires a knee, an elbow,
a shoulder doing its rotation
wrapped around another’s slumped
in depression, grief,
back arced to dress another’s feet.
