POETRY

“Silent Prayer” read by Linette Rabsatt.

I saw the older folks
come in the church
bow their heads silently
and pray
but today
I think audibility
is key
to call on the Father
to help us to be
a better version of ourselves
let these prayers
sing loudly through
the valleys
and echo through the mountains
let our supplications
flow like water
tumbling down like a fountain
and piled into the sea
praying away disasters and misery
pleading for God’s infinite mercy
a supplication
for forgiveness for our bad deeds
in this loud prayer
I cry and can hardly breathe
because indeed
I have done wrong
but I hope that my audible prayer
will reach the ears of God

“The Pouring of My Prayer” read by Linette Rabsatt.

let me concentrate
as I pray to God for another day
thanking him for all
that he does for me
let my prayer be so bountiful
that each future blessing
on those in my community
pours out of my pores
as pure water is captured
in a pumpkin blossom
after a spring shower
let my words be a delight
to the ear of God
as I ask for favor upon my fellow man
let me be transparent in every plea
and accountable for every action
so that my prayer’s plea
replaces my physical being
and my words
traverse the earth and wider galaxy
as a testimony
to the greatness of God
