Heart of Flesh Literary Journal is OPEN for submissions!

It’s that time again! Our reading period for Issue Nine starts today, and I can’t wait to see what this season will bring. We have several different submission opportunities for writers and artists listed below, so be sure to check the description and guidelines to send us your work.

Issue Nine: Call for Submissions

Our first submission call is (obviously) for the issue itself! We’re looking for your best Christian-themed writing and art.

Send us:

• Poetry: 1–3 poems at a time (no length limits).
• Flash Fiction: 1–3 pieces at a time (700 words per piece, max).
• Short Fiction: 1 piece at a time (4,000 words max).
• Creative Nonfiction: 1 piece at a time (4,000 words max).
• Art & Photography: 1–4 pieces at a time, with artist statement.

Please do not send previously published work. We want to be the first to publish what you send us.

Deadline: March 31st.

Christian Testimonies: Call for Submissions

Aside from our Issue, we are also looking for Christian Testimonies to publish in our Blog.

For those of you who don’t know, a Christian testimony is the true story of how you personally came to know Jesus. It often includes (but is not limited to):

1. the story of your life before Christ
2. the story of how the Lord saved you
3. a short reflection of your new life in Christ

Word count: 500–4,000 words

Testimonies may be previously published.

A selection of testimonies will be posted weekly during the month of April in our Blog.

Book Reviews: Call for Submissions

We are now accepting book reviews for our Blog!

We are looking for reviews of Christian-themed books (Fiction, Nonfiction, Essay, Poetry) to publish in our Blog during the month of April.

Word count: 500–1,000 words

Pure in Heart Stories: Call for Submissions

Pure in Heart Stories is our family-friendly literary magazine that accepts work from both adults (18 and older) and kids & teens (17 and younger), as long as it is appropriate for all ages. If you think your work could be enjoyable for a young audience, try sending it here instead of Heart of Flesh.

Pure in Heart accepts Christian-themed:

• Poetry
• Short Fiction
• Art & Photography
• Comics, Recipes, and Games
